Cyberattack Resilience in WAMCS: A Practical Approach
Smart grids are extremely vulnerable due to cyber-physical threats, which can be exacerbated if an attacker is able to manipulate the data that is getting measured. This paper presents a wide-area control scheme that uses multi-sensor, temporal prediction methods to both identify and mitigate attacks. When this algorithm is integrated into a state-of-the-art, synchrophasor-based wide-area monitoring/control systems (WAMCS) with flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS), it helps to preserve voltage stability. Practical validation of this algorithm in real time provides a credible lead reference for any research or engineering project related to secure grid monitoring frameworks applicable to large power systems.
